To support the teaching of maths, we follow the White Rose scheme of learning. Children are able to study a range of mathematical concepts through practical and written activities. In the 2017/2018 academic year, we participated in a maths project with other Bristol based schools within DBAT, focusing on the learning journey within units of maths.

White Rose

Through the use of White Rose, the children begin by learning to be fluent in mathematical concepts. The children are then given opportunities to solve problems and explain their reasoning.

Key areas of study in maths include:

  • Place Value
  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Statistics
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Algebra

Maths Across the Curriculum

At Fishponds CE Academy, we encourage the children to apply their mathematics across different areas of the curriculum. This year, we have introduced Enterprise into our thematic curriculum. The children are able to plan projects to raise money for either charities or school visits. The children apply maths skills such as statistics and calculation in these projects.

A maths extra-curricular club available for the children for 2 terms within the year. Our Key Stage 2 children have access to Mathletics to support their learning.
