Fishponds Old Library

The Fishponds Old Library is available to hire for events and activities and can easily be booked online via SchoolHire.

The light and airy space, which can fit 150 people standing and 100 seated, boasts two kitchens - a small one which can be used for preparing hot drinks and a larger one which can be used for catering. There are toilets, baby change facilities and the building is wheelchair friendly. Parking is also available on site. 

We're keen to work with local groups and organisations, as well as those from further afield, to provide a welcoming and multi-purpose space for the Fishponds, and wider, community.

The Fishponds Picture House opened in 1911 and survived until the larger Vandyke Cinema was built further up the road in 1926.

Following its closure, the building was sold to the council and made into the local library.

The library closed in December 2011 when facilities moved to Robinson House, in nearby Hockey's Lane.

One of the first jobs carried out when Fishponds CE Academy took ownership of the building at the end of 2014 was to repaint its salmon pink exterior a smart pale blue to match the school's colours.

The fully refurbished building was reopened for hire in 2017.
