The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Fishponds Academy includes Nursery and Reception (3-5). These formative years build the foundations for children’s life-long learning. EYFS follows a holistic curriculum which encompasses the following areas of development:

Personal, Social, Emotional Development

Communication & Language

Physical Development

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts & Design

At Fishponds CE Academy, we strongly believe that children learn best through a balance of adult led learning and child initiated play. Children take part in a range of adult and child led activities which focus on all areas of development and take into account children’s interests. The Early Years embraces the importance of both indoor and outdoor learning, with children having access to both all year round, whatever the weather!

A typical day in Reception:

Learning Diaries

  • We create a learning diary for every child to document their learning journey. We do this using an online learning journal called Tapestry.
  • The learning diary will include photos and observations of your child’s learning taken across the year.
  • You can access your child’s learning diary at home – your log in will be created at the start of the year for you view and upload your own observations.
